Eating Disorder Care Plan (EDCP)
The Eating Disorder Care Plan (EDCP) is a Medicare-funded initiative designed to support individuals with diagnosed eating disorders by providing access to subsidized allied health services. This plan helps patients receive comprehensive treatment from a team of health professionals.

Eligibility for the EDCP
To qualify for an EDCP under Medicare, a patient must be diagnosed with a severe eating disorder, such as:
Anorexia Nervosa
Bulimia Nervosa
Binge-Eating Disorder
Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED)
Additionally, the patient must meet certain clinical criteria, which a General Practitioner (GP), psychiatrist, or pediatrician will assess.
What Does the EDCP Cover?
Patients with an approved EDCP can access Medicare-subsidized sessions, including:

Psychological Treatment
Up to 40 sessions per year with a psychologist, psychiatrist, or other mental health professional.

Dietetic Support
Up to 20 sessions per year with a dietitian for nutritional counseling and meal planning.
How to Access the EDCP?
Consult a GP
The first step is visiting a GP, who will conduct an assessment and determine eligibility.
Develop a Care Plan
If eligible, the GP will create an Eating Disorder Care Plan, which includes referrals to necessary specialists (e.g., psychologists, dietitians).
Specialist Review
A psychiatrist or pediatrician may need to review the care plan in some cases.
Access to Treatment
Once the plan is in place, the patient can start using the subsidized sessions with the referred health professionals.
Ongoing Support & Reviews
The care plan requires regular reviews by the GP (usually every 6 months) to assess progress.
If additional support is needed, the GP can adjust the plan accordingly.
Benefits of the EDCP
✅ Provides access to specialized eating disorder treatment
✅ Reduces the financial burden of ongoing care
✅ Supports long-term recovery with a structured plan
✅ Encourages multidisciplinary care (GP, psychologist, dietitian, psychiatrist)

This plan is a lifeline for individuals struggling with eating disorders, ensuring they receive holistic and affordable care. If you or someone you know may benefit from an EDCP, the first step is to book an appointment with a GP for an assessment.
